Praise for Finding Freedom In Jesus

  • Transformed into freedom is the watchword of this wonderful new book. JP Foster and Matt Williams are not offering yet another theory of transformation into a new creation life that transforms us into confident and hopeful freedom based on what we have done or some new spiritual practice for us. Rather, they present the glorious message of the gospel that in Christ we are loved and shown grace, restored, and set free. This book offers a gospel-based concentration on who Jesus is and what he has done for you and for me.

    Dr. Scot McKnight
Visiting professor of New Testament, Houston Theological Seminary and Westminster Theological Centre (UK)

  • Many books have tackled the topic of our identity in Christ, but Finding Freedom in Jesus stands above the rest because of its rich biblical depth, powerful personal stories, and psychological and scientific insights. This is a must-read—one of the best books you’ll read this year.

    Margaret Feinberg
Author of The God You Need to Know

  • Drs. JP Foster and Matt Williams invite you to the rarely visited intersection of the scholar and the shepherd. This project takes you to the crossroads where biblical theology converges with spiritual practicality and bids you well on the path of empowerment, encouragement, and inspiration, armed with a more profound revelation, not only about who Christ is, but also about who you are in Christ.

    Kenneth C. Ulmer, PhD, DMin
Senior Advisor to the president, Biola University

  • Ground zero for the Christian life begins with identity—knowing who we are in Christ. Our enemy works overtime every day at his job of being the accuser of God’s children, unleashing words of condemnation and critique, all in an effort to discourage and limit us. To counter this, we have to become our favorite podcast preacher, where we turn up the volume on what Jesus and God’s Word says about us and then live in those truths. This is where Finding Freedom in Jesus becomes an essential resource in our journey into transformation. If you’re looking for freedom and transformation, this book is a must-read.

    Dr. Bryan Loritts
    Author of Grace to Overcome

  • So many people want their identity to be found in their achievement, financial gain, or popularity, only to be dissatisfied with their life and relationships. Finding Freedom in Jesus reorients your soul to the real life-transforming, life-sustaining, God-given identity found only in Christ.

    Joanne Jung, PhD
Associate dean and professor of biblical and theological studies, Talbot School of Theology
    Author of Knowing Grace

  • Finding Freedom in Jesus is a fantastic book about the ancient truths of a believer’s position in Christ written for twenty-first-century readers (including links to YouTube video extras!). Christians are created in Christ who have been restored by Christ and can live with confidence in Christ, finding freedom from the tyranny of life’s hardships, sins, and distractions by the power of Christ. Highly recommended.

Professor of New Testament and dean of the school of theology at the University of Northwestern–St. Paul

  • In an age that has endless answers to the question “Who am I?” Finding Freedom in Jesus offers a timely, biblically based, and practical guide to finding your identity in Christ. Chapters are short, and yet they are packed with stories and biblical insight. It is ideal for personal study, a small group, or in a classroom. I can confidently say that reading this book and taking the truths and reflective exercises seriously will be transformative.

  • There are few practitioners/scholars I trust as much as Drs. JP Foster and Matt Williams to shepherd readers with true pastoral care and deep Christian wisdom. Toward your journey of knowing Christ, this one-two punch from the pastor at one of Los Angeles’s significant pulpits and from among the more sought-after professors where I serve is a gift. Foster has counseled me in profound ways as a leader and follower of Jesus, and Williams’s wisdom has impacted me through our personal interactions and his thoughtful scholarship. I know firsthand that they live what they write. Dive into this book with seriousness, and you will find it life-shaping.

  • Like physical structures, our lives—and ultimately their stability—are determined by the foundation on which they are built. In this book, Drs. Foster and Williams address one of the principal issues of our existence—namely, identity. Their carefully crafted substratum of truth offers the biblical bedrock needed to fortify the believer’s sense of self and eternal purpose. This timely work is a requisite read for all who desire to faithfully follow our Lord and want to confidently answer the question “Who am I?”

  • This book is oxygen for the soul. It provides fresh insights to strengthen our spiritual walk by resting in our identity in Christ. In an age of busyness where we too easily focus on the externals, it calls us to the internals of who we are in Christ.

    Bryan Carter
Senior pastor, Concord Church, Dallas, Texas

  • Finding Freedom in Jesus is a powerful and practical guide to help believers embrace their true identity in Christ. It is rooted in Scripture, rich with personal stories, and designed for real-life transformation in churches, classrooms, and small groups alike.

    Brian Moore
Lead pastor, Crosspointe Church, Anaheim and Brea, California

  • As a pastor who has experienced the radical freedom found in Christ, I believe Finding Freedom in Jesus is one of the most important books you can read. Many people in our churches walk in fear, shame, and ungodly guilt, unaware of the powerful truth of who they are in Christ. This book is a road map to healing, transformation, and discovery of the true riches of heaven. Whether you’re a leader looking for a discipleship pathway or someone feeling stuck and searching for hope, this book will help you reclaim your true identity and walk in the freedom Jesus has already won for you.

    AJ Boncore
Campus pastor, Saddleback Church, Brea, California

  • We have few trustworthy resources today to help us bridge the gap between solid biblical truth and wise, real-life application. Many resources go one way or the other, leaving believers to figure out by themselves how truth and life work together. In their timely book Finding Freedom in Jesus, JP Foster and Matt Williams provide just what we need—wisdom for living into biblical truth—and all this wisdom circulates around the question of the century: Who am I? I enthusiastically applaud their gift to the church.

    J. Scott Duvall, PhD
Fuller Professor of Biblical Studies, Ouachita Baptist University, Arkadelphia, Arkansas

  • Have you ever heard or read a message and wondered how much further along you’d be in your life in every way had you read it years ago? That’s what Finding Freedom in Jesus did for me. The good news? It’s not too late. You and I can still internalize this message, exercise the recommended spiritual muscles, and truly find our freedom in Jesus.

  • I have long believed that one of the primary issues in the body of Christ is crisis of identity. Identity theft is not only one of the fastest-growing crimes in the world; I see it as one of the biggest challenges believers face. Misplaced identity is a root cause of many other issues that keep believers in bondage, yet Galatians 5:1 is clear: “It is for freedom that Christ has set us free.” Real, transformative, and lasting freedom happens when we discover our identity in Christ. Along with the Bible, this book is the manual we all need to get free, stay free, and live free. Read it and be transformed.

    Dr. Van Moody
    Pastor
Bestselling author of The People Factor

  • One of the fundamental crises we face in our culture today is a lack of purpose. Our world robs us of meaning and value. But the crisis of identity that we face in our world today is just as tragic as lack of purpose and meaning. Drs. Foster and Williams masterfully connect us to who we are in Christ and give us a road map to 2 Corinthians 5:17: “If anyone is in Christ, the new creation has come.” By meditating on the terms in this book, you will begin walking in newness of life and claiming your identity in Christ with greater clarity and understanding. You will be truly blessed.

    Elder Charles E. Blake II
Pastor, West Angeles COGIC, Los Angeles, California

  • In working through an early copy of Finding Freedom in Jesus, I found my own self-evaluations being transformed to what Scripture teaches about who I am in Jesus. I look forward to the morning exercises found in each chapter, and I feel such lightness in my spirit and confidence in Jesus. This book is laying foundational groundwork, shifting the focus from my insufficient self to an all-sufficient Savior.
